The electric arc furnace inputs electric energy into the electric arc steelmaking equipments through the graphite electrode, and takes the electric arc between the electrode end and the furnace charge as the heat source for steelmaking. The electric arc furnace takes electric energy as the heat source and can adjust the atmosphere in the furnace, which is very beneficial to smelting steel grades containing more easily oxidized elements. Using the high-temperature flue gas of electric furnace, the raw materials can be preheated through technology and equipment, so as to achieve high efficiency, energy saving, environmental protection and high yield. With the improvement of electric arc furnace equipment and smelting technology and the development of electric power industry, the cost of electric furnace steel continues to decrease. Now electric furnace is not only used to produce alloy steel, but also used to produce ordinary carbon steel and iron concentrate pellets. The proportion of steel output smelted by electric arc furnace in the total domestic steel output continues to rise.
